Getting ahead of the game on electric vehicle ‘smart charger’ installations in Truro
The Government’s drive towards a ‘zero emissions’ future has stepped up a gear following a recent announcement that all funded chargers must use smart technology from July this year.
Grants are available from the Government towards the cost of installing electric vehicle chargers at the home and workplace. As Government-approved installers, Mr. Electric can apply for the grants for you and install the equipment as a one-stop shop.
To go a step further, it was recently announced that Government-funded charge points at the home must use innovative smart technology from July this year.
This future-proofing measure means the charge points need to be remotely accessible and capable of receiving, interpreting and reacting to a signal.
Reducing the costs of electric vehicle use
Smart charging technology can also reduce high peaks of electricity demands which minimises the cost of electric vehicles to the system while also keeping costs down for consumers by encouraging off-peak charging.

The Government has also confirmed it will maintain the level of grants for home and workplace car charger installation at up to £500. The aim is that this will make the technology as accessible as possible for people and businesses who already own, or are considering making the switch to, plug-in or hybrid vehicles.
Jesse Norman, the Government’s Roads Minister, said: “The Government wants the UK to be the best place in the world to build and own an electric vehicle, and through leadership and innovation, it is paving the way to a zero emission future.
“We have already supported the installation of over 100,000 home charge points. The measures announced will give more people the opportunity to make the move to electric.”
Automotive Minister, Richard Harrington, added: “These measures will make it easier for consumers to move towards electric vehicles, helping us power towards a cleaner, greener future.
“Through our modern Industrial Strategy and Automotive Sector Deal, we are investing to ensure the UK is the leading destination for the innovation and manufacture of electric vehicle batteries and technologies to help all parts of the UK reap the economic benefits of these innovations.”
Last summer, the Government published its Road to Zero strategy which has the goal for all cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040. Measures within the strategy amount to almost £1.5bn of investment in the industry.
